Foam filled fenders are also very often used in ship-to-ship and ship-to-quay berthing operations. They are used as alternatives to the normal pneumatic fenders. These dock berthing foam filled boat fenders are made of polyurethane elastomer skin (or rubber skin), nylon reinforcement layer and closed-cell resilient foam. The performance of foam elastomer fenders is comparable to that of a pneumatic fender, but the fenders will not lose their function in case the skin gets punctured, and they have a high degree of wear resistance.
